This chapter examines how Irelands food imports and exports. It estimates how many people are fed by the Irish agricultural system and how many could potentially be fed by a VAS. It shows the level of food waste inherent in animal agriculture systems and how it is driving global food insecurity. Finally it shows how a VAS would free up agricultural land which could be reused for many other socially and environmentally beneficial purposes.
